Fertility Treatment

Fertility problems are currently causing distress for one in seven couples. Research shows that 40% of infertility lies with the man, 40% with the woman and 20% to a combination. It is with this in mind that I have devised a number of options for treating male or female fertility problems and an affordable package of treatments for both partners, if appropriate.

Before beginning acupuncture for fertility it is important that you and/or your partner should talk with me to discuss your specific needs and expectations. I offer a free 20 minute consultation or phone conversation for this.

There are many ways that I will be able to offer support; ideally you will be seeking acupuncture before going down the route of ivf because this will give you the best chance of rebalancing your system to enable natural conception. Unfortunately, many people are not aware that acupuncture can help with fertility until they embark upon ivf. If this applies to you then don’t worry, acupuncture can still be very beneficial. Again, I can offer a variety of options for treatment, including the Paulus et al assisted fertility protocol, of which you may have heard. Following our discussion about the various options, I will be happy to support you and your partner in any way that you feel best suits your individual needs.

Chinese medicine has been successfully treating infertility for more than 2000 years. Traditional Acupuncture for infertility is based not just on western medical conditions but on an holistic approach to health.

Male fertility issues are generally connected with low sperm count and/or poor sperm motility. Acupuncture, along with dietary and lifestyle changes, where necessary, has been shown to improve sperm count and sperm motility.

Female fertility problems may be caused by hormonal imbalances, blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, polycystic ovaries, polycystic ovarian syndrome or, sadly and frustratingly, have ‘no known’ western cause.

Five Element Acupuncture works on many levels; body, mind and spirit.

Body: A traditional diagnosis will aim to identify the specific needs of each patient. Is the problem due to irregular periods, poor blood quality, poor egg quality, poor sperm motility etc? Acupuncture points will be chosen to directly address such problems.

Mind: acupuncture is profoundly relaxing it eases the mind and empowers a person to feel more in control of their life.

Spirit: Each menstrual flow will have a major impact upon the spirit; it signifies loss of hope and loss of life. Emotions may swing between grief, anger, fear and heart ache. Five Element Acupuncture allows a safe space for expression of emotions and points will be chosen to soothe and calm the spirit.
